As we celebrate our 23rd anniversary of imparting and mentoring professional media personalities, our products continue making the Bukesa-Nakulabye based media institution and the pearl of Africa proud.
Friday night climaxed with massive triumph as our very own and former Miss UMCAT 2014/15 was crowned Miss Uganda 2019/20.
This prestigious event went down at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel after gifted Oliver Nakakande beat 22 others. Elizabeth Bagaya emerged as the first runner up while Mariam Nyamate ended up as the second runner up.
Nakakande was at Uganda’s leading journalism institution pursuing a certificate course in Journalism, its at this time that she made her inaugural step in the modeling arena, a move that has reaped big four years later.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga who graced the event as the chief guest, hailed the organisers of the pageant for instilling confidence and knowledge in the girls.
She urged the contestants to continue with what they have learnt regardless of who emerges the winner.
“I also want to thank Mike Mukula for supporting this pageant to be a success. Thank you all for inviting me to this occasion. I am enjoying myself,” Kadaga said.
It should be noted that immediately after Nakakande’s reign as Miss UMCAT, She was succeeded by Chaneza Phiphi another great model who recently shined at the Famous Run Way Heat, a televised modeling competition.
Kantono Diana, Namugera Gorrete Kafuluma, Tugume Linda and Barbra Elly have also served as Miss UMCAT up to date respectively.
For 23 years of existence, UMCAT has not only produced great and professional journalists but has also given platform to several students to enhance their careers outside classes especially in the performing arts.
Among these is famous comedian Kafeero Innocent (Dr. T-amale), Musician and Actress Evelyn Lagu, Actress Nabukenya Agri aka Agie Swag (The Ebonies), Singer Tuff B, Singer Whitney Glorious (Cityrock Entertainment) Comedian Simon Kalera among others.
