UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication- One last time together.
The class of 2019 shared its last moments.
The event was dubbed, one last time together. The class organized a small but colorful event in the school’s main auditorium, with a red, photo booth, and of course lots of food.
It was both joyous and melancholic. This was the last time together for a group of young curious minds that had joined a multimedia school to find their paths in the communications world.
And Paths, they have all found. Their graduation ceremony is set for December. Some are going out to pursue news anchoring, PR, marketing, and writing and many will adjust and use the skills they’ve garnered from the UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication as they see the industry requires.
The bond of the class of 2019 is not shallow. It’s strongly bound by age and challenges. Besides the usual young adults’ thing of meeting new people and making friends, this is a Diploma class that has patiently endured the hardships of studying through the pandemic. A journey that was meant for 2 years has come close to 4 years. So much has changed from the world they knew to the one they are headed to. But they are very optimistic they’re going to conquer it.
The event was also graced by a prominent old boy of UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Denis Duke. Denis has worked for many media houses and is now a freelance content creator on YouTube.
His advice to the young people was simple. “You need to believe that you belong somewhere. Not anywhere.”
He also urged young people to push themselves out more and not get fixated on only the original paths they were taught.
The event climaxed with cake cutting as twilight faded to dusk. So we wish the class of 2019 all the best in their coming adventures and we hope there will be another reunion in the future.
